ProMedica Health System RN / Registered Nurse - Cath Lab - Full Time - Days in Monroe, Michigan

Under general supervision and according to the established policies and procedures, coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

ACCOUNTABILITIES (List the essential functions and responsibilities of the job. Provide concise descriptions of each accountability and the estimated percentage of time spent on each.   1. Maintains the standards of nursing care, policies and procedures of the system and department, also maintains an awareness of patient and family conditions and nursing care needs, including physical, psychological and social needs.
  2. Administers medication and performs treatments prescribed by physician, using professional judgement in treating patients and communicating with physicians to modify care as appropriate. Institutes and assists with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient such as cardiac arrest.
  3. Assists physicians with special tests and procedures as needed (e.g. thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc.)
  4. Assesses objective and subjective signs and symptoms of patient, formulates nursing diagnosis that addresses the focus of nursing care to be provided to the patient, establishes nursing care plan with patient goals or critical care path with expected outcomes, implements nursing care plan, evaluates and updates nursing care plan in accordance with current patient status.
  5. Organizes, direct and delegates nursing care assignments according to the needs of the patient and personnel skills, qualifications and capabilities. Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy, surgical intervention, or procedures by other departments.
  6. Participates in orientation of new personnel, which may include student nurses, graduate nurses, registered nurses, nurse aides/assistants and monitor technicians, to work environment.
  7. Participates in staff meetings and participates on committees for improving nursing care. Participates actively in rehabilitative needs of patients including teaching and discharge planning.
  8. Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e., infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) as written in the department standards. Education: Degree from an accredited nursing program. License: Must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan Certification: Current BCLS certification. Specialty certifications as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Years of Experience: Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE Continue professional development and knowledge of current treatments and techniques in nursing to provide quality care required. Requires clinical knowledge of medical/surgical nursing, sound decision making skills, caring, and ability to cope effectively with stressful situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands: Due to continuously changing patient census/activity and staffing needs, must have the flexibility to work a varying schedule should the need arise, which may require working a varying schedule including shift, overtime (greater than 40 worked hours per week) and/or shift durations that exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per week. Must move about for extended periods of time and must move, position, and transfer patients weighing in excess of 100 pounds.

Participate in usage and maintenance of equipment and instruments for safe patient care. Promote clean and safe physical environment including fire and safety awareness. Participate in performance improvement activities of patient care by monitoring and evaluation.
